Exhibition Dates: FEBRUARY 24 – MARCH 24, 2011

The Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven
Woodbridge, Connecticut (Other possible venues to be announced)

Artists working in all media are invited to participate in a project that explores the
transmission of tradition through generations. The exhibition will open on February 24 and conclude with a Gala Auction of all exhibited works, on March 24, 2011. Part of the
auction’s purpose is to raise funds to support quality arts programming at the JCC.
40% of the proceeds of the auction will go towards this goal; the artists will receive the remaining 60%. An exhibition catalog will be available for sale (each artist receives a complimentary copy.)

EXHIBITION CONCEPT & REQUIREMENTS
The exhibition is based upon the Jewish concept of M’Dor L’Dor. The Hebrew term means 'from generation to generation' and is a central Jewish theme that encompasses the religious, ritual lore and cultural traditions passed down through the ages that enrich our lives and our understanding of one another.

Artists will be invited to create a new work celebrating generational heritage and cultural diversity. All mediums will be considered, however, each work must incorporate all or
part of a physical door - a play on the Hebrew words M’Dor L’Dor used in the title
of this exhibition.

Participation in this exhibition is through a two part process. Following this initial open call,
a selection panel will review all submissions and artists will then be invited to participate. Selected artists will be eligible to receive a donated door, or may use their own door, or
part of a door of any size or style of their choosing.

The selection panel will be comprised of art professionals and community leaders.

IMPORTANT:  As this exhibition will not be held in an enclosed gallery, but will be shown in open public spaces, artists are requested to be mindful of the fact that the
JCC is a family-oriented and culturally diverse environment. We therefore ask that
all work produced maintains respect for the audiences who will view this exhibition.
