Join the Jewish Historical Society of Greater New Haven and textile artist and designer Ruth Simon McRae to discuss Jewish art! Ruth is an interior furnishing industry consultant and designer, teacher, and artist working in multiple media. She holds an M.S. in Textiles from Georgia Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Textile Design from Philadelphia University. Her education also includes the University for the Arts in Philadelphia and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Ruth’s artistic work includes painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, ceramics, and especially textile arts. She is inspired by color, pattern designs, and fabrics and textiles, especially their textures. Several years ago, Ruth began slowly creating a series of twenty four tallitot using various techniques including collage with vintage materials. Each tallit revolves around a particular concept, the first was “Trees”, and features evocative combinations of materials, one added in response to the last like a painting, to create a harmonious whole.

JHSGNH and the Peter C. Hereld House for Jewish Life at Quinnipiac University are thrilled to present the Judaica Project! Please join us for monthly dialogues on Judaica, Jewish art, and what these mean to you. This series is made possible by a generous grant from the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven.
