Intro to Tai Chi Class

LEARN THE BASICS!

Often referred to as a ‘moving meditation’ practice, Tai chi Chuan consists of movement in a slow defined manner, coordinated with breathing. Originating in China as a physical activity leading to martial arts.

Many of Tai Chi’s health benefits have been validated by recent research; this includes an increase in lower body strength and balance, calm the mind, and an increase in body awareness. A great option for stress management, a regular practice can calm the mind and is welcoming to everyone.

FREE TO JCC MEMBERS!

INSTRUCTOR: Higgy Lerner, retired RN, seasoned in Acupuncture, Herbal medicines, and practicing Tai Chi for over 40 years.

Autogenic Training

18+ | EIGHT-WEEK SERIES OF CLASSES | MARCH 7 - APRIL 25 | THURSDAYS 11 AM - 12 PM

Autogenic Training is a self-guided relaxation technique, learned over a series of eight 60-minute sessions. Using a process of repeating phrases to oneself, thus inducing sensations such as heaviness and warmth, a physiological state of relaxation is achieved. Its development dates back to physicians in the 1920’s who had worked with patients undergoing hypnosis, and found there were certain common sensations these patients experienced. By learning to self-induce these sensations, a person can become deeply relaxed very quickly.

The process and effects of each of the eight phrases used in Autogenic Training are examined, and practiced. By the end of the course you will have learned and have become familiar with using the technique of Autogenic Training, enabling you to use it to good effect in your own life. Through class learning and practice, and with the addition of daily practice at home, the relaxation state can easily be achieved.

When practiced regularly it can lead to overall stress reduction. There is a large body of clinical research supporting the effectiveness of Autogenic Training and the relaxation response in both mental, emotional and physical issues.
